This past weekend I was shopping at a local boutique with my cousin and as we were checking out at the register she noticed their business card. Immediately upon viewing it she told me that it looked JUST like one from a local shop where she lives, 3 hours away! Not only did this ruin the image of her boutique, but also the high end one I had taken her to while she was visiting!
It is easy in this digital age to go online, select a template and plug-in your company’s information. At the end of the day however, you have to ask yourself what saving a few bucks up-front for a generic design is going to cost your brand image in the long run. In this case it hurt the image of this boutique that we both absolutely loved. She would have probably taken the business card home with her and shared it with her friends and family. In this case however, she walked out not taking the business card and a negative view of this “unique” local boutique.
